There is the funny little faculty that is common to all human beings. Many of us are so grateful that we have it because when it prompts us to do the right thing and when we listen to it, we are so thankful because it kept us out of trouble. There are others, however, who simply ignore it because it seems to get in the way of how they want to live their life. To them it doesn’t matter what this internal GPS is telling them, even though it’s warning them, directing them, imploring them, that if they keep on carelessly heading in the same direction they are going, they will go straight over a cliff and splat! When this warning system starts beeping, they simply turn off the annoying GPS so they can enjoy the road they are on. You may be thinking, what is this faculty that we are talking about? The faculty is simply the conscience.
Let me ask you a few questions. Is it wrong to rob a bank? If someone came into your house and stole your furniture, how would you feel? How about this, is it wrong to commit adultery? How about murder? Lying? Rape? Are these things wrong? How do you know if they are wrong? Did someone tell you that these things are wrong? Maybe… The truth is that no matter who you are or where you came from your conscience testifies to the fact that the things previously listed are indeed wrong! Have you always listened to your conscience?
